Cast Choices

Location Choices

Location - My bedroom
This will be used at the main characters bedroom, I will need to alter it slightly to make it look more suited to a younger girl. This is why I have placed a few teddy bears on the bed and turned on colourful lights for the night times scenes. I will also place toys around the room and maybe use a different duvet cover to make it look like a younger girls room.

Location - Street & Garden
I also want to use my street as it is normally the place the neighbours/children play, which is what I want to happen at the beginning. It is realistic as 9 year olds tend to play near their homes, not away from them for safety etc. I also want to use my back garden as it is the view from the bedroom.

Music Rights

I have decided upon using a song from a video I found on YouTube for my trailer background music. The composer is Peder B Helland. He has stated in the information of his video that the music is free to use for any non-commercial projects, therefore I am able to use this in my trailer.

Original Trailer Storyboard

For my first page of my storyboard, I focused on trying to create the feelings of equilibrium that Todorov describes in the basic structure of a film. I tried to do this by creating a sense of calmness with the children playing happily and laughing. I then tried to disrupt this equilibrium, like in Todorov's structure with the use of a flash of a black screen.
I tried to then show the calmness of the children playing outside becoming disrupted with the use of rain/thunder/stormy weather and another black screen and an unnerving non-diegetic sound. I wanted to switch between the weather and the children with the black screens flashing in between and the loud noises to create feelings of suspense for the audience.

Common Conventions of a Thriller Trailer & Theory

I have used Emaze to create a presentation about the common conventions of a thriller trailer, to help me better understand what I need to do in order to make my trailer fit the genre I have selected.

Questionnaire Results

Questionnaire

I created a questionnaire to find out what my target audience expect to see and want to see in a film trailer of this genre.

I had 20 females and 20 males from my target audience complete my questionnaire. I have scanned in two completed examples below.

Trailer Pitch - Podcast 1

Proposed Title: The Missing
Proposed Tagline: One. By. One.
Unique Selling Point: Based on the best selling true crime novel Pied Piper by Dr Cory Smith following the Australian cold case of the Beaumont Children.
Target Audience: Teens/Young Adults, prime audience for suspense/Thriller/Horror.

Ancillary Tasks Brief Ideas

A promotion package for a new film, to include a trailer, together with two of the following three options:

- A website homepage for the film;
- A film magazine front cover, featuring the film;
- A poster for the film.

I have decided that I am going to produce a film magazine front cover, featuring the film and a poster for the film. I decided this as out of the three choices, those are the two I feel I will be able to do better as I am familiar with Photoshop and can produce work that will look professional and I can continue to improve and progress with it.

Film Magazine Front Cover Ideas:

I plan to use the cover of The Black Swan Little White Lies issue 33 as the theme fits with my ideas and I feel as though the structure would be a good starting point.

Poster Ideas:

I plan to make the poster using common conventions of a suspense/thriller poster. When I looked at other posters for the genre, the majority were rather basic with dark colours and all had one person front and centre with the title either above or below. The basic look of the posters is quite interesting as they still draw the audiences in.
